The FAIR Data Principles represent a consensus guide on good data management from all key stakeholders in scientific research. Published in 2016, the guidelines provide key requirements to make scientific data FAIR—findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable. NIST's Office of Data and Informatics is a premier, pioneering resource for researchers and institutions in the physical sciences with domain expertise in biological, chemical, and materials sciences, specializing in large and information-rich data sets now common in many disciplines. In 2016, the ‘FAIR Guiding Principles for scientific data management and stewardship’ were published in Scientific Data. The authors intended to provide guidelines to improve the Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reuse of digital assets.
